Darlo Drama has been established since 1990. For sixeen years we have been inspiring students with our positive and dynamic approach to acting. We have an excellent reputation for creating a supportive and enjoyable environment for you to explore your creativity.
Darlo Drama helps to support Darlinghurst Theatre Company (a non-profit cultural organisation), including it's Emerging Artists Program, and it's community projects which include; “Milk Crate Theatre” (theatre and workshops with Sydney’s homeless ), and “Telling Tales” (workshops and performances with local elderly people) .
Membership is only open to students and offers the opportunity to be in "Darlo Drama Studio Productions". Studio Productions are performed at Darlinghurst Theatre Company's venue and allow people to continue learning in a safe environment. Darlo Drama is an egalitarian company, there are no favourites or “cliques” and all participants are given equal opportunity to be involved.
“Fundamentals of Acting” is an affordable and ideal starting point to learn about acting. The emphasis of the course is practical, so the majority of class time is spent doing and experiencing. Darlo Drama teachers are professional actors and directors, who are constantly bringing their experiences and enthusiasm to your class.
“Fundamentals of Acting” is a manageable course for those who want to explore the benefits of drama, but have busy lives. The course is made up of three Levels. Each course is ten weeks, and the commitment is one night a week, building towards a performance - a monologue in Level 1, a scene in Level 2, and Level 3 gives you the opportunity to perform in a play at a professional theatre space.
There is no obligation to do all three Levels. If you have already completed a beginners course elsewhere, you can elect to join Level 2 or Level 3 pending availability.
LEVEL 1
Level 1 aims to build your confidence in performing, creative expression and spontaneity. Fundamental acting skills such as improvisation, voice, movement and script work are taught through drama excercises and games. At the end of level 1, you will perform a monologue taken from a play to an audience of family, friends & fellow students.
LEVEL 2
Level 2 concentrates on working with dialogue. You will learn techniques to approach dramatic text in more detail, and focus on affecting another actor on stage. Improvisation and drama games are used to understand these techniques. Characterisation, voice and movement are also explored in this term, building towards a presentation of scenes, to an audience of family, friends & fellow students.
LEVEL 3
The main focus of Level 3 is the production of a play, giving you the opportunity to perform in a larger scale presentation. This term will give you a fundamental understanding and experience of the processes involved in putting on a play. Working as an ensemble and script analysis is developed throughout this process. The final production is the graduation show where you will be presented with a certificate.

Several amateur studio productions a year and heaps of social events, if you become a member of Darlo Drama.
